We need more of people like NTRs & Pawan Kalyans
No Matter What, South Means Chennai
We made Baahubali that turned the attention of whole India and went on collecting 600 crores. And there came Gautamiputra Satakarni recently that was promoted as Pride of Telugu History. A commercial film like Khaidi No. 150 grossed 100 crores share at the box office. Does this all enough to create a special place for Telugus especially in the hearts and minds of North India?
Almost all the middle-class people in cities like Udaipur and Jaipur have watched a movie like Magadheera umpteen times and Baahubali also in theatres. They remember names of heroes as Chiranjeevi’s son, Prabhas and Rana. But the main thing is, they doesn’t know about the language these films are originally made in.
“Yeah, they are south movies. But which language exactly we don’t know. Is it Tamil? Chennai films? Or Andhra” said a Hotel Owner, when’s he asked about it while he’s watching dubbed version of Magadheera on Sony Max other day. Despite craving on these films and enjoying them a lot, it’s unfortunate that these people are not knowing Telugu language and its cultural diversity.
Maybe we need more of people like NTRs and then the modern day Pawan Kalyans who are always putting Telugu pride ahead, and then giving punch to Hindi-obsessed political class. Otherwise, even after 70 years of Independence, South will be remembered as Madras/Chennai only.
