#BoycottSnapchat: Twitter rages after Snapchat CEO says ‘Poor India’
Looks like Indian netizens have taken up the challenge to defy disrespectful comments made by Snap Chat CEO Even Spiegal, who claimed that his photo-sharing is not for ‘poor countries like India and Spain’. Soon after the CEO’s comments drew a lot of flak on social media, the India users are voluntarily campaigning to uninstall the app immediately and offer a low rating on Play Store (Android) and App store (Apple).
Ever since news came out that a former employee Anthony Pompliano claimed in his lawsuit that Spiegal once said, “This app is only for rich people…I don’t want to expand into poor countries like India and Spain”, the incident had snowballed into a major controversy with the netizens threatening to boycott Snap Chat until Spiegal offers his public apology.
Messages, pictures and forwards on Whatsapp and Twitter mocking Snap Chat are widely under circulation. On other hand, a news report has it that Snap Chat has come forward saying to trash the allegations, ‘This is ridiculous. Obviously, Snapchat is for everyone! It’s available worldwide to download for free.”
The insulting remarks against India, according to Anthony’s lawsuit, were made by to Snap Chat boss during a PowerPoint presentation in the year 2015. The entire fiasco is now, apparently, impacting the number of users from India and the overall rating of the application.
