A sophisticated actor and a classy director like Avasarala Srinivas taking up a sex addict character grabbed eyeballs. Babu Baga Busy is a remake of a Bollywood adult comedy named Hunterrr. Directed by Naveen Medaram, the film stays faithful to the original but underplays the sexual theme that it is based upon.
What is it about?

Madhav (Srinivas) craves for sex right from the time he hit puberty and encounters various women in different phases of his life. But after a point he realizes that he is unable to impress anybody and decides to get married. He meets Radha (Mishti) who is just recovering from a breakup. Madhav faces the dilemma of whether he should tell about his weakness to Radha or not.

Performances:

Srinivas Avasarala is a bad choice for the lead for many reasons. Firstly he looks too matured to be a college student and secondly he is too classy to be a sex addict. He couldn’t come up with a convincing act as the naughtiness that is usually associated with such characters is totally missing in his performance. Ravi Prakash is another bad choice for the role of a Casanova. Mishti Chakraborthy couldn’t emote. Tejaswi is bad with her one-note performance. Supriya is impressive as the frustrated middle aged woman. Priyadarshi is good as the trusted aide of the protagonist.

Technicalities:

Naveen Medaram doesn’t make any notable changes to the original script in spite claiming to have rewritten the screenplay. His direction is very ordinary as he neither impresses with the narrative nor could bring out the desired emotions from his actors.

Music by Sunil Kashyap is loud and totally out of sync. Cinematography is very dull. The film still needs a lot of trimming despite its short runtime. Production values are very cheap.

Thumbs Up:

Daring plot

Thumbs Down:

Boring execution

Analysis:

Babu Baga Busy has the makings of a solid sex comedy, but fails to impress because of lackluster direction and badly written screenplay. The film starts off in an interesting way. One could relate to the sexual awakenings of a teenager. Things get repetitive and boring as the story moves forward.

Romance track between Srinivas and Mishti lacks verve and turns out to be one of the biggest weaknesses of the film. Only episode that is impressive is where the protagonist has an affair with a middle aged woman. This part is handled well as it offers something for the target audience.

Srinivas’s sexual encounters to show his ‘score’ are badly executed. One would get a feeling that he is particularly targeting bad looking women to fulfill his desire. Mishti’s past love story and the entry of Adarsh Balakrishna into the main plot doesn’t add any value to it. Final confrontation of Srinivas and Mishti is so bad that we feel cheated for sitting till the end.

Babu Baga Busy neither tickles nor titillates in spite of having an interesting theme at hand. There is scope for crackling humor and sparkling romance, but all we get is the boring saga of forced emotions and stupid confusions. Avasarala Srinivas should soon come up with some brilliant work to make us forget about this torturous experience. You may safely skip it.
