New Releases Failed In Exams Season
Tollywood box office has been pretty dull for the past three weeks due to different reasons topped by exams season.
After February 17 release ‘Ghazi’, as many as a dozen films hit screens and only last week release ‘Kittu Unnadu Jagrattha’ proved to be a decent earner. This week, 6-7 films hit screens but none could make an impact at box office, not even Sundeep Kishan’s ‘Nagaram’ and dubbed film ’16’ which received encouraging reviews.
Hollywood action adventure film ‘Kong Skull island’ however managed to generate good revenue in multiplexes. Anjali’s ‘Chitrangada’, ‘Aakatayi’ and Lakshmi Manchu’s ‘Lakshmi Bomb’ couldn’t even get openings and were taken out of theatres on the second day itself. Low buzz and poor content are other reasons besides exams period for this lame performance at box office.
Coming Friday, another slew of films including Dil Raju’s ‘Vellipomake’, Raghava Lawrence’s ‘Shivalinga’ and Sree Vushnu’s ‘Maa Abbayi’ are slated for release. Given the dull season, these films are expected to fizzle out at box office unless they offer extremely positive content.
Exhibitors have now pinned all their hopes on Katamarayudu which will be having a massive release across the world on March 24.
