Governor Narasimhan To Be India’s VP?
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh’s Governor ESL Narasimhan is likely to be made India’s Vice-President if all goes as per the reports. Narasimhan’s tips during last year’s “surgical strikes” against Pakistan said to have won him appreciation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Also, Narasimhan’s problem-solving methods and how well he handled the both Telugu states Telangana and Andhra Pradesh that have several teething problems initially have also further enhanced his chances for the position of VP.
Narasimhan’s second-term as Governor is going to be end on May 3. So, his name is being considered strongly for the top post by the BJP. Mr Narasimhan was chief of the Intelligence Bureau before he was appointed Governor for Chhattisgarh in 2007 by the UPA government. He is the only UPA appointed Governor who has survived under NDA rule. His work and commitment said to have played a crucial role in continuing his term. Also, Narasimhan’s close association with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval may also reportedly prompting the BJP to favour his candidature for the VP. A famous Union Minister from the Telugu States said to had confirmed the same. So, the decision to make ESL Narasimhan is most likely to happen.
About ESL Narasimhan
Ekkadu Srinivasan Lakshmi Narasimhan was born in Tamil Nadu in 1945. After an initial two years schooling in Hyderabad, he completed his education from Chennai. Migrating from Physics to Political science, Shri Narasimhan is a gold medallist from the Madras Presidency College. He is also a graduate in Law from Madras Law College.
Narasimhan belongs to the 1968 batch of IPS from Andhra Pradesh cadre. He served as the First Secretary in the Embassy of India in Moscow from 1981 to 1984. He is highly respected police official.
VP Election Procedure
Veering towards the numbers and election procedure, the Vice-President is elected by the members of both the Houses of Parliament. At present, the NDA enjoys a combined majority in the 245-member Rajya Sabha and 543-member Lok Sabha. So, it’s a cake walk for its candidate to be the Vice-President.
