Gopichand for Rajya Sabha?
Indian Badminton’s chief coach Pullela Gopichand is among the probables of Rajya Sabha MPs in the President’s quota. It’s learnt that both AP CM Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana CM KCR said to have recommended Gopi’s name for the list and President is said to be positive in the issue. If all goes well, Gopi would be nominated for the Upper House in a week.
Although Gopi hails from AP, he’s now resident of Telangana. Henceforth, the nod of both the CMs is mandatory. And both the CMs are said to be on the same boat in the issue.
Gopi’s contribution to the Indian Badminton is outstanding as both of his students Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu have won Olympic medals for the country. It’s buzzed that Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar too took initiative in recommending Gopi’s name for the post.
Boxer Mary Kom, Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar were already members of Rajya Sabha in the sports category. 12 members are nominated by the President for the term of six years for their contributions to art, literature, science, and social services. Sachin and Rekha’s term would end on April 26, 2018.
